ATHY MODEL SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATATION
NOVEMBER 2010

Dear Parents,

Our AGM took place in the Church of Ireland Parish Centre on the 13th October. We would like to express our thanks to Leanda Hill for the very interesting and informative presentation which she gave on “Bullying”.

Members were asked to raise their hands if they were in favour of the change to the Constitution. The motion was carried. We were therefore in a position to add two more members to the Committee. We would like to welcome Karen Dennehy and Sarah Adewuyi onto the Committee.

The Structure of the Committee as it stands now is as follows:

We were delighted to hear of the Award for the film “School Daze”, which last years 5th and 6th Classes received for Outstanding Achievement in Film Making for “Camera” at the recent FIS Film Festival which took part in the Helix Theatre, well done to everybody involved.

Childrens Christmas Outings

The Athy Model School Parents Association have organised the Childrens Christmas Outings for this year. The parents association have paid for the price of the buses. The itinerary is as follows:

JUNIOR TRIP

CLASSES: Junior and Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd
DATE: Friday 17th December 2010
TIME: Pupils should be in school at the normal time of 8:45am and should be collect at the normal school time of 1:20pm. The bus will be leaving at 10:00am and will be back before 1:20pm.
VENUE: Riverbank Arts Centre, Newbridge.
PRODUCTION: The Fourth Wise Man
PRICE: €10 per Pupil

SENIOR TRIP

CLASSES: 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th
DATE: Monday 22nd November 2010
TIME: Pupils should arrive in school for the normal opening time and be collected at normal collection time. The bus will be leaving at 11:00am and will aim to be back for 2:00pm.
VENUE: Visual Centre, Carlow
PRODUCTION: The Girl Who Forgot to Sing Badly
PRICE: €10 per pupil

We would appreciate if you could send in monies and sign the permission slip (for the attention of Clive Cole) before Thursday 18th November.

5th and 6th class recently attended a science demonstration in the local library.

Hat Day in the Model

On Friday 22nd of Oct we staged a Hat day in the Model school. Each child made a donation and got to wear a hat of their choice for the day. All money collected will go towards building a school for disadvantaged children in India.

An Tánaiste Opens Athy College

On Monday 18th of October, Athy College was officially opened by An Tánaiste Mary Coughlan, T.D. During her visit, she was presented with flowers from the Model School. Afterwards the Tánaiste paid a quick visit to each classroom.

Mother’s Union Visit

A big thank you to the Mother’s Union Athy, who kindly donated 4 bibles to the school, one for each classroom. We invited the representatives of the Mother’s Union to our assembly on Wed 15^th of September. They got a tour of the classrooms and really enjoyed their visit. During the assembly we had a collection for St. Brigid’s Hospice in Kildare. Many thanks to all who gave kindly.
