On Friday May 24th we were delighted to welcome David Day to our school. David runs his own drumming workshop business called Jabba Jabba Jembe. This form of drumming originated in West Africa.
Each class was given a session where they learned the techniques used to produce different sounds and rhythms with many instruments. The pupils were introduced to methods of ear training through fun rhythm games and exercises to boost co-ordination and increase co-operation. The workshops were a hands on, fun and energetic experience.
Athy Model School is a primary school under the patronage of the Department of Education, with a Church of Ireland ethos. We endeavour to enable each child to acquire a set of moral values based on the ethos of the school.
