October 2014 Newsletter

We are all well settled back into school life at this stage. Well done to all the new children in the infant room who have adjusted to Big School so well and are working very hard!

5th and 6th class attended the Athy College Open Day on Friday 19th September. Many thanks to Richard Daly and his staff for an enjoyable and informative morning.

Swimming is up and running again for 1st to 4th classes until the Halloween break, and for infants, 5th and 6th for six weeks after Halloween.

We are having our Open Evening in November this year-on Thursday 6th Nov from 7 pm in the school. Once again, all are welcome.

We would like to welcome Ruth Armstrong to the school. Ruth is a 3rd year student in CICE & will be joining Mr Mc Inerney, 5th and 6th class, on teaching practice, for three weeks in November.

With all the ‘busyness’ of the summer term, we never got to say goodbye to Lynda Mc Cann properly so we had a special assembly for her on Fri 5th Sept where she was given flowers and cards from each class. Warm wishes for the future, Lynda from us all!

We have a guest speaker, Paul Hickey, from safety.ie, coming to our school to give a talk to parents about Internet Safety on Wednesday 8th October at 7 pm. Paul gave workshops to our pupils last year and they thoroughly enjoyed them. He is an excellent speaker on the topic of internet safety so we would urge you to attend if you can.

The Parents Association AGM will take place afterwards at 8 pm and again your support at this is strongly encouraged.

We are hosting the Scholastic Book Fair this year and it will be open after school for parents and children, as well as on the night of the Parents’ Association A.G.M. Scholastic has a great range of books at reasonable prices and the school earns books from monies raised so please come along, browse and buy! More details will follow.

Thank you to the parent volunteers who are coming in to listen to the children reading in small groups on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Your support is much appreciated and it is a great help to both teachers and children.

We will be having a Dress Up Day on Friday 24th October so now is the time to start planning your outfits!

School will be closed for midterm break from Mon 27th to Fri 31st October.
