October 2013 Newsletter
We have a very busy term ahead! 5th and 6th class attended the Athy College Open Day on Friday 20th September. Many thanks to Richard Daly and his staff for an enjoyable and informative morning.
Swimming is up and running again for 1st to 4th classes until the Halloween break, and for infants, 5th and 6th for six weeks after Halloween.
Chess with Ben is back; every Wednesday after school until 3.10 pm.
A reminder that we are having an Open Evening on Monday 7th October from 7 pm in the school. All are welcome.
Our glassworks in the downstairs corridor is looking very colourful now as the surrounding wall has been painted a vibrant pink. This really sets off the ‘glass garden’. Our Prayerful Place has been given its own alcove further down the corridor, opposite the 3rd-6th classrooms. The theme at present is Harvest and there is a lovely display of pupils’ work and harvest fruits, much of which will soon be displayed in church. A big thank you to Susan Murenzi for her help in coordinating the Prayerful Place.
We have recently purchased a new laptop for use in the senior classes, and two giant beanbags for the school library. We have also ordered a library bench and a ‘bookworm’ storage unit for Infant books; we should have them in the next few weeks. This is all thanks to the funds raised from the Parents Association Table Quiz back in March. Thank you all for your support.
We would like to welcome Aimee Kerr to the school. Aimee is a 2nd year student in CICE AND will be joining Mrs Cole, 5th and 6th class, on teaching practice, for three weeks in November.
We’d also like to welcome Lynda Mc Cann to our school. Lynda comes every Wednesday to take Assembly. Thank you Lynda!
Parents Association As a fundraising initiative, we are organising a school calendar for 2014. The Athy Model School calendar will be on sale from the beginning of November. It will feature all pupils in the months of their birthdays. We’d like to thank everyone who supplied props and clothes or helped with setting up the photos when they were being taken recently. We would really encourage people to buy the calendars; the photos are absolutely charming and they would make lovely Christmas gifts. They will be priced at €10 each.
The Parents Association AGM will take place in the school on Wednesday 16th October at 8 pm, with tea and coffee served beforehand. It is a great opportunity to hear about what has been happening in the school as well as our plans for the coming year. Your support is strongly encouraged so please attend if you can.
